History of Providence
Providence was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams and in 1831 it was incorporated as a city. In the last years of the 19th century it has been established as an industrial city and became a distribution point for machinery, plastics, electronic equipment and jewelry and soon for wood, steel, oil and natural gas. In 1900 it became sole capital of the Rhode Island.
